Send Your Valentine a Hug Bug – Cheryl’s Cookie Giveaway

Cheryl's Valentine Cookie Greeting

I’m gonna be honest with you here.  What I always dreamed of for Valentine’s Day…the ultimate gift in my teenage eyes…was a heart-shaped box of chocolate.  I remember looking at them in the drug store when I was a kid and thinking that they were the height of romance.  The bigger the better.  The more assorted the steamier.  The ultimate token of love. Of course, I wanted a prom dress from the Deb Shop at the Mall, too, if that’s any kind of a taste-level barometer.  But honestly, I still want a heart-shaped box of chocolate for Valentine’s Day.  Preferably from the schmancy chocolatier at Chelsea Market. But…if you want to throw in some flowers and cookies too, Doc Hubby, that would be a-ok.

After tasting a Cheryl’s cookie I received at a 1-800Flowers.com Mother’s Day event two years ago, my husband declared it to be the best cookie he’s ever tasted.  I’ve got some baking game, and took a wee bit of umbrage with that statement.  Until I tasted it.  I have to say, Cheryl’s delicious moist sugar cookies covered in decadent frosting and decorated so charmingly, are absolutely divine.

I first found out about the amazing $5 Cookie Greetings from Cheryls last October. For five bucks (and that includes shipping) you can send a delicious, frosted, beautifully boxed cookie anywhere in the continental U.S. The Halloween ones were adorable, and I just sent a Cheryl’s Happy Face Greeting to a friend who needs a smile these days.  I love that you can choose any color.  And the Thank You cookies are the perfect gifts when you want to give an extra special thanks to someone special.

Cheryl's Hug Bug Cookie Greeting

Cheryl’s has two terrific Cookie Greetings for Valentine’s Day–a sweet pink heart Valentine Cookie Greeting and the adorable Hug Bug Cookie Greeting.  I am so excited to be sending a Hug Bug to my little Bean (thanks Cheryl’s!)…mostly because that’s one BIG cookie for one little girl.  Guess her Daddy and I will have to share a bit of that Valentine’s Day love too! I am a true fan of this product.  For a little over the cost of a card and a stamp, and way less than a box of candy or flowers, you can send a Valentine’s Day gift that your Valentine will really remember.

And thanks to the good people at Cheryl’s, THREE Babies Gotta Have It readers will each win one Hug Bug Cookie to send to their Hug Bugs! Want to enter?  Read on!

Babies Gotta Have A Universal Registry + Amazon Baby Registry Giveaway

Amazon.com Baby Registry

Babies Gotta Have It.  The Mission.

When I started this blog almost four years ago (WHAT? How is that even possible?) my goal was to create videos of me and my then adorable little tiny baby (WHAT? She is applying to kindergarten!) sharing the must-have baby items that Mamas wiser and more experienced than I had recommended/handed-down/gifted us.

Since then both my baby  and my blog have grown and changed.  I suppose growth is inevitable, and as time has passed I have expanded to write about toddler products, preschool products, New York for kids, and even the odd product that Mama’s gotta have.  I have taken on a wonderful contributing writer who has a new baby, and is the Mama of two boys, to offer a fresh perspective on today’s baby products.  I’m doing fewer videos lately, and I’m feeling a yen to get back to that actually.  I think my Baby Bean would love to be the voice of her own favorite baby, toddler and preschool items these days.  Perhaps Babies Gotta Have It is having a bit of an identity crisis.  Lately, I have had a yen to get back to the must-have baby products that were at the heart of the genesis of Babies Gotta Have It.   Then again, no matter how big she gets, she’s always your baby isn’t she?

So when Amazon.com approached me to share their new Baby Registry with my readers, I was delighted to do so.  I am an Amazon affiliate blogger, and I do believe in them as an online marketplace that offers a huge variety of items at an often very good price point.  When prospective parents are registering online for baby products (and apparently lots and lots of you do!) and looking to stock their nurseries with baby essentials, the Amazon Baby Registry is a fantastic place to begin.  Mamas and Daddies can easily create a registry and then Amazon guides you through a list of 15 registry essentials with sublists of top sellers to get you started.  Cool.  A nice supplement to my Baby Registry List:-)

I am, however, equally committed to profiling and promoting small Mom and Dad run businesses that offer unique, sometimes handmade, often eco-friendly baby items.  It’s part of my mission here at Babies Gotta Have It to expose parents to the amazing variety of wonderful, quality baby products out there.  And the super-neat thing about the Amazon baby registry is that it’s a universal registry.  So when you find those organic cotton onesies with the adorable graphics from the small boutique online that you just can’t live without, you can add them to your Amazon registry with the  universal “add to registry” button.  Also, Amazon offers free 365-day returns–eligible baby products in new and unopened condition received within 365 days from date of delivery result in a full refund with no deduction for shipping.

When I registered, lo those many years ago, going to the big baby box store with the magic wand and swiping bar codes was the only option open to us.  How cool, now, that Amazon offers new parents the chance to choose from a nearly unlimited array of products at every price point.

Flexibility, ease, and economy in a baby registry.  That’s something Mama and Daddy just gotta have.

Tommee Tippee: Closer to Nature During Meals – Giveaway

Happy New Year! Here’s another terrific review from Kristin. Bon Apetit!

Have I mentioned how much I love Tommee Tippee products?  Because I do.  A ton.  They are BPA and phthalate-free and created with intelligence.  Clearly they have done their research (and talked to Moms).

Tommee Tippee Feeding Products

Tommee Tippee recently sent me a number of feeding/weaning items to try with MD (thank you to Tommee Tippee for the items)!  MD refuses to take his milk from any form of bottle, but when I placed the pumped milk into the new Explora soft spout sippy cup, he was immediately intrigued.  And, willing!  Finally, after six months of random feeding pit stops and shortened dinners, we are able to feed MD while we are away from the house!  Now, I can feel free to get that haircut that I’ve been putting off for months (hmm, since last November actually).  Anyway, the Explora Sippy Cup is completely spill proof and perfect for six months and older

Tommee Tippee Bottle Warmer

And, with the travel bottle warmer (and food warmer), I can warm up his milk (or his baby food) wherever we go!  This is truly the best thing ever!  There is a thermal thermos inside a large warming carafe that you can fill with hot water to warm your bottles or baby food jars.  No longer will we place a chilly bottle under the warm tap water in a rest area until it is lukewarm…or between our legs while in a traffic jam to “heat” it up.  The only downside to the warmer is the size…it does not fit inside my diaper bag…but, it easily stashes inside the car, and that’s good enough for me.  I recently tried this out on our trip home for the holidays, and the water was still boiling hot after four hours in the car!  Worked like a charm, especially when we hit traffic and could not get off the road for a quick feeding.

Tommee Tippee Explora Products

Other exciting products from Tommee Tippee include the weaning bowls, the Explora feeding spoons, and the Explora Easi-mat.  The weaning bowls, spoons, and mat are BPA and phthalate-free and dishwasher and microwave safe, so you can feed your baby without worrying about the chemicals.  The easi-mat attaches simply to the weaning bowls, so your baby cannot dislodge the bowl from the table.  This has proven to be perfect for MD, as he is so intrigued by the bowl and spoons, but does not have the control to keep from knocking things off his tray.  The mat keeps the bowl in place, even for the most ornery eater.  The spoons are for nine months and older, but MD loves to gum on them and I know they are safe for him to do so. He also loves to teethe on the “Chewther!”  It helps support oral development, and he loves to swing it back and forth as well.

MD Dines A La Tommee Tippee

Tommee Tippee has a ton of other great products including Explora weaning bowls with lids, heat-sensing weaning spoons, and a variety of “sippee” cups for all ages!  They make perfect baby shower gifts, and are great for new parents!

Are you a fan of Tommee Tippee too?  One Babies Gotta Have It reader will win a $100 gift pack of Tommee Tippee products including a 3 Pack of the Closer to Nature 5 ounce Baby Feeding Bottles, 2 Closer to Nature Insulated Bottle Bags, the Closer to Nature Breast Pad Starter Pack, A Chewther Teether, and a 2 Pack of Milk Feeding Bibs valued at over $100! Happy New Year!

To Enter the Tommee Tippee Giveaway – Be sure to read these directions.  I’m getting a lot of incomplete entries!  Thanks!:

  • MANDATORY ENTRY #1: You know you have thought about it…drinking out of that sippy cup when you’re at the park and parched.  So here it is, my question for you this New Years.  It is two part–you  must answer both parts to qualify.  Part 1: Have you ever, for whatever reason, drunk out of a sippy cup?  Part 2: Whether you have or have no, if in the future you were inclined to drink from a sippy cup, what would you choose to partake of?  Entering is that easy!

StinkyKids for Your Stinky Kid – Giveaway

StinkyKids Plush Dolls

Don’t know about yours, but my kid is a sweet sweet girl…aaaaand she’s also a little stinker.  Britt Menzies, a Mama and an artist/entrepreneur, first had the idea for StinkyKids when her daughter Emma requested that Britt paint her as a ballerina.  From that one painting grew an entire world–a world in which a whole gang of SkinkyKids have adventures, get into mishaps, and learn to be “Leaders of Good.”

Affiliate Link - StinkyKids and the Runaway Scissors on Amazon

I met the StinkyKids a few weeks ago during an amazing afternoon at the Madame Alexander Factory here in New York City, which happens to be less than a mile from my house and I never ever knew it!  After being set loose on the magical Madame Alexander Heritage Gallery and showroom several NYC bloggers, their kids and I were introduced to Britt Menzies and the StinkyKids.  And I have to say, I entered the showroom with two little boys who, in a room absolutely chock full of the most engaging variety of dolls and stuffed animals–I mean hundreds and hundreds of enticing dolls, went straight for the StinkyKids dolls arrayed on one table to the side.  Britt told us all about her journey to create the StinkyKids, and then went on to read her award-winning first book, StinkyKids and the Runaway Scissors. It’s a clever picture book for kids ages 10 and under, in which the StinkyKids get into trouble, but with creativity and help from Mom are able to solve their problems and be leaders for good.  See, this is what I like about these dolls.  They aren’t perfect.  They’re cute and cuddly but sometimes they insist on wearing their bathing suits, get gum in their hair, and are just little stinKers.

StinkyKid Britt

The dolls themselves are plush and cuddly and safe for kids ages 0 and up–hello those hard-to-buy for 18 month olders!  And there are girl StinkyKids and boy StinkyKids…each adorable, each with his or her own personality, interests and look, and each one a Leader of Good.  My daughter giggled with glee when she heard the name StinkyKids, loved the books and trading cards, and put StinkyKid Britt on her Christmas List.  Score!  StinkyKids dolls are available at Barnes and Noble online, Target.com and our affiliate, Amazon.comStinkyKids and the Runaway Scissors and also the second book StinkyKids See a Full Moon can be found at Barnes and Noble in brick and mortar or online, or on Amazon.

And here’s the best news, one Babies Gotta Have It reader will win a StinkyKid doll of her choice and a signed copy of the StinkyKids book, StinkyKids and the Runaway Scissors just in time for the holidaysWant to enter?  Read on!

My Black Friday Post – Prank Pack Fake Gift Boxes Giveaway

This Friday night as my husband reinvests in “Iron Man” for the millionth time, I come to you not with sentimental photos of our New England Thanksgiving, nor with thoughts on what I’m thankful for, nor with the litany of bargains I scored today.  I have no coupons or deals, discount codes or promotional offers, I have only this.  Hilarious prank boxes to wrap stuff up in on Christmas to make your family members SQUIRM!

Noggin' Net Prank Gift Box

We love prank gifts in our family.  Our Christmas trees have sheltered toilet seats, dirty pajamas, and perhaps the best of all…a 12″ by 18″ framed photo of my parents wrapped and presented to my husband the first Christmas after we were married.  This year I know for a fact my brother is getting not one but two doozies.  And thanks to the folks at Prank Pack, several of our gifts will be packaged in hilarious boxes.  Allow me to explain.  Just yesterday was my husband’s birthday.  Among his loot was a super cool tee shirt from the NBC series “Friday Night Lights.” However, when he unwrapped his package, he sat in confusion for a bit, believing he was the proud owner of a Noggin Net (pictured above) – an absurd fishing net that doubles as a hat to save space in the boat.  Hilarious.  Doc Hubby, not knowing it was a prank spent three or four awkward minutes while he squirmed a bit, looked puzzled and thanked me sincerely before opening the box to discover his real present.    I live for those three or four minutes.

But hey, thanks to the folks at Prank Packs I could have given him:

Pet Petter Prank Pack

The Automatic Pet Petter

or

Family Blankeez Prank Pack

The Family Blankeez

or even better…

Beer Beard Prank Pack

The Beer Beard.

Several members of my family will be enjoying these on Christmas Day.  And thanks to the pranksters at Prank Packs, your family can too.  One lucky Babies Gotta Have It reader will win a Prank Pack assortment to encourage some of those priceless awkward moments on your family holiday as well.

Throw in a toilet seat or two for the inlaws as well.  That’s just something Mama’s gotta have!

Lock Up Your Scissors and Get Ribbies Clippies! Giveaway!

I had forgotten about the Bangs Incident. That dreadful day in October of 2008 when I took craft scissors to my sweet baby girl’s hair, and cut her bangs. I cut them way way way way way too short.

Don’t believe me?  Look:

Big Mistake

Oh yeah, it was bad.  Just look at her broken-hearted little face! “Mama! What did you do to me?”  But her bangs had gotten so long and I didn’t have any clips and I wasn’t ready for her first haircut and it seemed like it would be so easy.  After all, I’ve been getting my hair cut for years.  I have seen what they do.  I made myself do penance by posting pictures of her every week for the next four weeks on Mama Act. I took responsibility.  I owned up.  And I have NEVER touched her hair with a pair of scissors again.  And I will NOT.  Unless she gets gum in it.

So you put this stuff out on the internets, and as it turns out people read it!  Sweet Kim Marable, one of the founders of Ribbies Clippies, came across this series of posts and knew I needed help.  And that I was in a unique position to help other mothers who might, as I did, feel tempted to take scissors in hand and snip.  As Kim points out, in those precious months before you’re ready to take your baby girl for her first haircut, but when the tresses are just a bit out of control, there is no need to cut those wispy bangs!  Get cute clippies and pin her little curls back!  Ribbies Clippies are sweet little clips, ribbon trimmed and foam lined for extra grippiness. Kim sent us several pairs to try out and we love them! Her ribbon patterns are especially cute and the foam gripper doesn’t get snagged in my sweet girl’s hair as some of the velcro-lined hair clips do.  I adore the colors and styles.

Ribbies Clippies Hair Clips

In addition to their gorgeous hair clips, Ribbies Clippies also offers an assortment of headbands and pony tail holders.  I especially love the felts collection featuring adorable felt flowers on soft elastic bands. They are scrumptious.  We were lucky enough to get to sample an assortment of clippies and a felt flower headband.  The Bean sported her headband at a Fall trip to a horse farm a few weeks ago and I snapped some photos.  I have to say, now that her bangs have finally grown out, she looks adorable.

Ribbies Clippies Orange Peony Headband

Ribbies Clippies Hair Clips and Bows for Girls

Ribbies Clippies Orange Peony Headband

Ribbies Clippies Orange Peony Headband

Ribbies Clippies girls hair clips and hair bows make really wonderful stocking stuffers, or purchase a set and a clippie holder or clippie case as a “big gift.”  These clips are wonderful for fine baby hair and hold up well in thick curls too.  Even better, Ribbies Clippies is offering free shipping until Christmas!

So here’s the awesome news! Just in time for the holidays, Ribbies Clippies is giving one lucky Babies Gotta Have It reader a $40 gift certificate to their online store! Want to enter? Read on.

Babies Gotta Have Vintage Designs – Ashleybug Organics Giveaway

Here’s another great review and giveaway from Kristin! Enjoy!

MD in a Super Cute Bib from Ashleybug Organics

Do you have a messy, drooling little one? A baby with enough drool to hydrate an entire small country? I do! And, Ashleybug Organics offers so many fun, all-natural drool bibs, pacifier clips, and burp cloths/lovies in super cute vintage designs! I particularly love the Sheep pattern (as seen on MD), but there are so many great patterns from which to choose. For example, I think the Apple Tree pattern would be perfect for a sweet baby girl, and the Elephant and Sailboat patterns are just adorable for those special little boys in your life!

The Sheep Pattern from Ashleybug Organics

The Ashleybug Organic products are handmade with soft organic cotton and backed with organic flannel (which is great to keep them in place on your shoulder even when your little one does not stay still). Each fabric is designed and sewn with the best quality organic cotton. This means that instead of conventional cotton, this fabric is grown without any fertilizers or pesticides, and on land that has had three years to remove any toxic chemicals from the soil (from previous other plants). I’m always willing to spend a little more to buy organic because giving your babies the pampered, organic treatment they deserve, for a fraction of the cost of the fancy baby boutiques, should be a priority. Especially when your little one has sensitive skin like mine (and you will love that they have been prewashed in organic washing detergent)!

Ashleybug Organics Bib and Burp Cloth Set

Although my little boy isn’t quite ready for the solids yet, his Ashleybug Organic bib and burp cloth are getting a ton of use. And, they are holding up incredibly well through all the drool, spit-up, and washings! The drool bib has a snap closure at the back, which is great for keeping it in place without the scratchiness of Velcro. But, the feature I love the most: the drool bib is short…so those little hands cannot push it up over his nose and mouth. I don’t worry when I strap on the Ashleybug drool bib, whereas, I refuse to use most bibs because MD inevitably pushes them up over his face and I’m paranoid enough to think he’ll suffocate! If you are a “mamanoid” like me, I am certain you will love this bib!

With the approaching holiday season, can you think of a friend with a new baby? Ashleybug carries great one-of-a-kind baby gifts and baby shower gifts. Or, if you want to treat yourself to a few stain-free, organic bibs and burpees, you are sure to have a clean, dry shoulder even if your little one drools like mine!

Hurry to Ashleybug Organics to find your own adorable products or gifts!

Thank you so much to Ashley of Ashleybug Organics for sending Kristin the bib and burp set to try out with MD. And I’m so excited to say that just in time for the holidays or the arrival of those December babies, one lucky Babies Gotta Have It reader will win a Bib and Burp Cloth Set of their choice! Want to enter? Read on!

It’s Halloween Time in the City. A Giveaway from The Popcorn Factory

Boo Bats Popcorn Tins from The Popcorn Factory

Only one more week to go!  My little one is so unbelievably excited about Halloween.  She is counting the days.  Daily.  Several times.  “How many more weeks until Halloween?”

Last Year's Fairy Princess Costume

We have done quite a bit to get into the Spooky Spirit around here.  Halloween in an apartment building isn’t quite the same as Halloween in the country.  I’m trying to figure out just how to decorate for holidays here in our little space.  I definitely want my Bean to have the sense of fun that holiday decorations inspire, but our space is so small and so cluttered that the decorations can just get lost in the piles of papers and boots and magazines and strollers and tricycles in the living room.  We hung a festive garland, created a fairly massive centerpiece display with a bowl full of gourds, painted pumpkins, and a cute ghost candle that I grew up with.  And thanks to Michaels we have a little foam Halloween village that Bean assembled a few weeks ago.  We’ll decorate our door on the big night as a sign to the children in the building that we’re open for Trick or Treating. After the party in the lobby, lots of children from the neighborhood will hit our building hard.  I’m stocked up on candy.

And we’ve had some wonderful treats arrive in the mail to help get us in the mood!  The Boo Cookie from Cheryl’s and the 3-Way Combo Boo Popcorn Tin from the Popcorn Factory have all arrived at our door to brighten the cool October nights! The combination of Butter, Cheese and Caramel Popcorn (all separated for those purists but I love them together) is to die for.  To. Die. For.   Here in the city our packages are dropped off with the doorman, Mr. Felix.  Every day when we come home, the possibility that Mr. Felix will have a box waiting for us is gives us something to look forward to.  And when he does?  Oh joy!  These incredibly delicious and adorable treats were welcome surprises!

Mr Bone Jangles 3 Way Popcorn Tin from The Popcorn Factory

Whether you celebrate your Halloween in the city or in the burbs, by the water or on the farm, and whether you pick up your mail at the post office or find it on your porch, The Popcorn Factory wants you to have a little Halloween surprise waiting when you come home this Fall!  One lucky Babies Gotta Have It reader will receive either the 3-Way Combo Boo Popcorn Tin or the Mr. Bone Jangles 3-Way Popcorn Tin free as a sweet and spoooky surprise for your little goblins.  Want to enter?  It’s easy!  read on!

The. New York. Chocolate. Show.

The New York Chocolate Show

So perhaps the greatest miracle of all…is that there is actually an event called “The Chocolate Show.” The. Chocolate. Show.

And it takes place here in New York City. Where I live.

“The world’s largest event dedicated to chocolate.” That’s what it says on the website. I kind of wish that was my tagline here at Babies Gotta Have It.  Cuz, um, baby’s gotta have chocolate.

Needless to say, I’m going.

Kids at the Chocolate Show

Even better, there is now a Chocolate Show Kids Zone.  Yes, you can bring your budding chocolate lover with you.  No need to pay for babysitting.  Bring her along!  If you’re working hard to raise a child with a discriminating palate, like I am, you’d be forgoing a huge part of his or her education if you omitted that most distinguished of food groups: chocolate.  Oh and did I mention kids go free?  Free.  No money.  Two kids ages 5 – 12 get in free with every purchase of an adult ticket ($8 per ticket for each additional kid).

So what will you discover in the Kids Zone? A “chocolate grab” game in which kids can win free tickets to see “The Radio City Christmas Spectacular” starring the Rockettes or Cathy Rigby as “Peter Pan.”  A chocolate grab.  It’s like Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory without the rules.  Please grab the chocolate!  Also, American Heritage Chocolate (owned by Mars) will present colonial style themed booth where the workers will dress in period costumes and educate consumers on the history of chocolate in the US.  There are arts and crafts, treats and fun, and so much more.

The New York Chocolate Show Kids Zone

And best of all!  One Babies Gotta Have It winner will win a pair of adult tickets to The Chocolate Show (that’s four kids grabbing chocolate for free, my friends).  The New York Chocolate show will run from November 10 – 13th at the Metropolitan Pavilion on West 18th Street right here in Manhattan.  Want your kids to love you forever?  Tell them you’re going to The New York Chocolate Show.  See what happens…

To Enter The New York Chocolate Show Giveaway:

Have a Happy Henson Halloween – Dinosaur Train Giveaway

Happy Halloween from "Dinosaur Train"

Halloween may be three weeks away but we are more than ready in our apartment.  Our decorations may be kinda lame, and it’s as balmy as a July day, but still, my little Bean is psyched.  We’ve been perusing the oddball gourds at the Farmer’s Market, trying on every possible leotard and tutu combination, weighing the pros and cons, and narrowing in on the costume.  We’ve consumed an entire pack of ghost Peeps…okay I did that all by myself.  In about twenty four hours.  But they get stale really really fast.

Happy Halloween from Sid the Science Kid

Halloween episodes of all the Bean’s favorite shows are hitting the air waves, and I was so excited to hear about new offerings from two of our PBS Kids favorites, “Dinosaur Train” and “Sid the Science Kid,” both from the brilliant Jim Henson Company.  On October 17th you can check out the “Spooky Science Special” starring Sid, Gerald, teacher Susie and the rest of the gang (rebroadcast on the 25th, 28th, 30th and 31st) and tune in October 20th for the Dinosaur Train “Haunted Roadhouse/Big Pond Pumpkin Patch” episode (airing again on the 24th, 28th, 30th and 31st)

Dinosaur Train Buddy Costume

Still searching for that perfect costume for your little trick-or treater?  The PBS Kids website offers patterns for you to create your own Buddy costume (there are sew and no-sew options!) or you can buy one and a personalized matching trick-or-treat bag ready made on their site.  A Tiny Pteranodon costume is also available to buy on the site

We were lucky enough to receive a copy of the new Dinosaur Train Halloween book, “The Spooky Scavenger Hunt” to help get us into the Halloween spirit (thank you Dinosaur Train!).  Written for ages 4 – 8, this fun and educational storybook takes the reader on a nighttime scavenger hunt with Buddy, Tiny, Mr. Pteranodon, and Mr. Conductor.  It is illustrated with colorful, engaging pictures that capture the spirit of the show, and of course, offers age-appropriate information about nocturnal dinosaurs and using your five senses.

And thanks to the great folks at the Jim Henson company, one lucky Babies Gotta Have It reader will win a copy of “The Spooky Scavenger Hunt”.  Want to enter? Read on!
